Recognising my own biases

Running practices in the 1990s I realised that when a visiting male/female couple came into the tower I would ask the man first about his willingness and ability to conduct. Once I realised what I was doing I became proactive about inviting female visitors to conduct, and doing that before making the offer to male visitors.

Practice improves ones ability, and if you are always second in line to get a turn you get fewer turns and less practice. It matters if people have unconscious biases as I did.
